Modern systems must be fast and reliable to ensure optimal working conditions and therefore high efficiency. In order to ensure maximum availability with short response times and to be able to meet the response times required in a security environment, data for visualization and security are separated.
While a WiFi connection ensures data exchange between the hand-held pendant station and the "Connection Box" during visualization, safety data is transmitted via a Bluetooth connection. This division of data flows ensures maximum stability and increases security, as intrusion from outside is made even more difficult.
In addition, it is guaranteed that the maximum permitted follow-up time of an emergency stop signal of 100 ms is not exceeded and that even a temporary failure of the application would not trigger an emergency stop or set the enabling switch to inactive. Interferences can thus be avoided and efficiency increased.
If required, the HMI can also be used in tablet mode if the emergency stop and enabling switch are inactive. If this mode is not desired, a local radio mode is created just after pairing with the base station.
Effective range restriction for maximum safety
The wireless design of the HMI allows maximum freedom of movement when operating a machine within its working range. The WiFi and Bluetooth connections provide the basis for determining the permitted distance. Without having to install tags or other components, the user defines a maximum permitted distance from the application and thus creates a theoretical circle around the base station that limits the effective range. This area is independent of how far the radio signal would reach, but refers to the insight into the danger zone.
If the operating range is left, the operator is within a tolerance range and receives a warning by vibration of the operating device and pulsating emergency stop. In this area, the machine can still be operated for a configurable period of time in order not to interrupt the workflow and to avoid frequent shutdowns.
However, if this tolerance range is exceeded, or if the operator does not return to the effective range within the permitted time frame, approval is withdrawn and an automatic emergency stop is triggered. This ensures that the machine can only be operated if the user has visual contact to the machine and thus can react to any danger immediately.
